Send alerts to Telegram

Connect Telegram

  1. Click Settings in the navigation menu
  2. Click Integrations in the sidebar
  3. Open the Telegram section
  4. Click Connect Telegram
  5. Open @onlineornotcom_bot, then send the displayed /connect code in the destination chat

OnlineOrNot connects through the first-party @onlineornotcom_bot bot. You do not need to create your own Telegram bot or paste a bot token into OnlineOrNot.

Private chats

For a private chat, open @onlineornotcom_bot, copy the /connect command from OnlineOrNot, and send it to the bot. OnlineOrNot will save the private chat as a Telegram destination after the bot receives the command.

Groups and supergroups

For a group or supergroup:

  1. Add @onlineornotcom_bot to the chat
  2. Copy the /connect command shown in OnlineOrNot
  3. Send that command in the target chat

OnlineOrNot will confirm the connection in the chat and show the destination under Settings > Integrations.

Channels

For a channel, add @onlineornotcom_bot as a channel administrator with permission to post messages, then post the /connect code in the channel.

If Telegram does not deliver the channel setup message, use the advanced manual setup option in OnlineOrNot. Manual setup sends a confirmation message before saving the channel, so the bot must already be able to post there.

Choose where alerts go

After connecting Telegram, choose the Telegram destination when creating or editing an uptime check, browser check, or heartbeat monitor.

OnlineOrNot sends Telegram alerts when a selected uptime check, browser check, or heartbeat monitor goes down, sends reminder alerts if you have reminders configured, and sends a recovery alert when it comes back up.

Troubleshooting

If a Telegram destination shows a warning, send a test alert from Settings > Integrations > Telegram.

Common causes are:

  • The bot was removed from the chat
  • A private chat user blocked the bot
  • The bot is not a channel administrator
  • The bot does not have permission to post messages

Fix the Telegram permissions, then send another test alert. You can also remove the destination and reconnect it.
